Two local students now each have an extra financial boost to help them reach their educational goals.
At a dinner event Thursday night at Exhibition Park during Ag Expo, Mallory Adams and Geni Witdouck were named the two 2020 recipients for The Rotary Club of Lethbridge East and Exhibition Park $10,000 Agricultural Scholarship Awards.
The scholarship is to further recognize the importance of agriculture in the community by supporting two top students in their pursuits of an >agricultural career.
Adams is completing her third year of a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Studies at the University of Lethbridge. She has already earned a diploma with honours in Agricultural Sciences from Lethbridge College.
She says she discovered her passion for agriculture through her experiences with the industry and employment in crop production. Norton has also participated in the Cor Van Raay CASE competition and the AgEnt program.
“I feel very privileged to have been selected for this award, it is an honour to be a recipient of such generous support,” Adams said.
Witdouck, meanwhile, received a marketing diploma from Lethbridge College and is now a fourth-year student at the University of Saskatchewan. She grew up on a family farm near Picture Butte and has worked for Monsanto/Bayer CropScience for the past two summers.
“This night is honestly incredible for me,” Witdouck said. “I’m so excited to be here. I feel honoured to be one of the recipients.”
The 2020 edition of Ag Expo will wrap today at Exhibition Park.
