Lethbridge Police are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the driver of a vehicle who engaged in a high-speed road rage incident that ended in a rollover collision.

On March 10 at approximately 6:30 p.m., police and EMS responded to an injury collision along 5 Avenue North, just east of Stafford Drive. The investigation determined a 19-year-old driver was northbound on Stafford Drive in the area of 1 Avenue South when he became involved in a road-rage incident with an unknown driver in a light colour SUV.

Both vehicles were travelling at a high rate of speed – witnesses estimated upwards of 100 km/h. The 19-year-old attempted to cut in front of the SUV to turn right onto 5 Avenue North, but due to the speed was unable to maintain control of his vehicle. The vehicle jumped the centre median on 5 Avenue North and entered the westbound lanes striking a vehicle and going over the hood/windshield before rolling once and coming to rest. The occupants of both vehicles were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Aren Benjamin Lee Verwer, 19, of Lethbridge is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in court April 29.

Investigation is still ongoing to identify the driver of the SUV. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help identify the driver, is asked to call police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477. Online tips can also be submitted at http://www.p3tips.com.
