Some stores in Park Place Mall have decided to close down their shops for the protection of the public, along with their staff and other staff members throughout the mall.

In a statement released Wednesday, Park Place mall officials say they have taken various steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as they take on new cleaning methods and updating the public as the virus spreads.

“Recently we have undertaken several steps in our efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 including escalated cleaning programs and reduction of mall operating hours. We are following all guidelines from health and government authorities to do our part in preventing the spread of the virus, and constantly updating or amending our practices as required.”

With many of the stores in the mall deciding to close temporarily, representatives of Park Place say they understand their concerns for safety of their staff and the public, and respect their decision to do so.

“You might notice that some of the stores have elected to close temporarily. Along with you, we are concerned for the safety and well-being of all our tenants and customers, while also recognizing the impact to the livelihood of the people that work within the mall as a major employment source within our company.”

As of now, Park Place has a select number of stores open for shopping, but Alberta Health Services advises citizens to not go out for unnecessary reasons and to limit time out in social gathering areas such as shopping centres.
