Lethbridge Police have charged a 25-year-old male in connection with three cases of arson over the course of two days.

On Tuesday at approximately 5:15 p.m. Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a dumpster fire in the west alley along the 400 block of 13 Street North. While on scene a second fire was located a short distance away. Both were extinguished and no one was injured. Upon police arrival an investigation was initiated and video surveillance of a male suspect was later obtained.

On Wednesday at approximately 5:50 p.m. police responded to a report of a fire next to a dumpster in the alley along the 600 block of Columbia Boulevard West. A witness reported a suspicious male fleeing the area and provided a description. An officer en route to the fire subsequently observed a male matching the description crossing McMaster Boulevard West. The male, who smelled heavily of smoke and had soot on his hands and face, was arrested without incident. During a search of the subject incidental to arrest, police also recovered a stolen credit card.

Danny Daryl Berdan, 25, of Lethbridge, is charged with three counts of arson and possession of a stolen credit card. Berdan is in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
