LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Lethbridge Police have charged a 34-year-old man in connection with a weapons incident at the southside Walmart over the weekend.

On Sunday at around noon police responded to Walmart along the 3700 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South after a physical altercation between a male and two loss prevention officers outside the store escalated to the male pulling a handgun and pointing it at them. Two days prior, the same male was at the store and following a verbal dispute regarding a return, threatened to come back and cause harm.

The male fled the area prior to police arrival but was located a short time later and arrested without incident. Police seized a backpack containing BB gun pellets and CO2 canisters (which are used in BB guns) but no firearm – real or imitation – was recovered.

Jordan James Sargeant, 34, of Lethbridge, is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, causing a disturbance, assault and two counts of pointing a firearm.

Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing Sargeant was released from custody and is scheduled to attend court July 30.
