As a way to show support to the community that has shown it support, Re/Max Real Estate Lethbridge has launched The Class of 2020 celebration and bursaries.

When COVID-19 cancelled thousands of students’ graduations throughout the city, owners of Re/Max Real Estate Lethbridge Dallas and Katrina Harty thought they could do something to help celebrate the graduating class of 2020.

“We thought that we would do something nice for the grads because of COVID,” says Dallas Harty. “It is very simple, all the grads have to do is email us and we are going to provide all of those people with a lawn sign that says ‘I’m a grad of 2020’ and they can stick it in their lawn, have some fun with it and get some recognition, as well as it automatically enters them to win one of two $1,000 bursaries.”

Graduation is an important time for many people, as it is a large milestone for young adults to accomplish. Thinking about his own graduation, Harty says because this opportunity has been removed or changed, graduates shouldn’t feel like their accomplishments aren’t as important and go unrecognized.

“For us, we all remember our graduation, although it may seem like a long time ago, but it really is the first milestone in your education and for them not to be able to celebrate in the usual fashion, it’s heartbreaking, so this is why we put this together,” says Harty.

In the process of making the program happen, many local businesses jumped at the opportunity to support local grads including The Lethbridge Herald, Mortgage Design Group, Sobeys Uplands, KB Heating & Air Conditioning, Murray Chevrolet Cadillac, Design Signs, Country 95.5 and B-93.3 FM.

Since the recent launch of the sign program and bursaries draw, more than 200 graduating students have applied for the program to support and celebrate their accomplishments.

“We have teamed up with local sponsors because there is quite a bit of cost to this, so we got a good group of local businesses who didn’t even hesitate to join this,” says Harty. “We launched on Friday afternoon to put the message out, and by the end of the weekend we had well over 200 grads registered already, so the response has been incredible all around.”
