LETHBRIDGE HERALD
Lethbridge Police are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a person of interest in connection with a suspicious fire behind a downtown business earlier this week.
On Monday at approximately 9:48 p.m. Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of a waste/recycling bin on fire in the alley along the 600 block of 3 Avenue South. When firefighters arrived on scene they located a small fire next to a business. The fire was extinguished and no one was injured. Property damage is estimated at approximately $1,000.
On Wednesday the fire department contacted police for assistance and officers initiated an investigation. Video surveillance footage was subsequently obtained and shows an unknown male walking through the alley approximately 30 minutes before the fire.
Anyone who recognizes the male is asked to contact police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
There have been several occurrences in recent weeks where fires have been set in garbage containers and police are advising the public to watch out for any suspicious activity and if observed, report it immediately. In addition, businesses and residents are advised not to stack combustible materials or debris against buildings or fence lines.
