Deck fire causes $20K damage

A fire on a deck in west Lethbridge caused one minor injury and an estimated $20,000 damage on Tuesday.
Fire and Emergency Services responded to a fire on the deck of a home in the Copperwood neighbourhood of west Lethbridge.
Three stations responded to a two-storey house fire where a barbeque on the back deck had malfunctioned and caught fire. The fire extended onto the siding and exterior of the home.
When crews arrived, flames were showing from the rear of the home and smoke was visible from attic vents. Crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly, containing it to the rear of the house.
A fire investigation has been completed and the cause was determined to be accidental. The home sustained damage to the exterior, windows and rear deck.
