A gang-style attack against a man earlier this year in Lethbridge has earned another man a stint behind bars.

Jimmy Bad Man was sentenced to four months in jail after he pleaded guilty Thursday in Lethbridge provincial court to a single assault charge.

Court was told the victim was initially chasing Bad Man and two others down an alley near the supervised consumption site, when they stopped and swarmed him. One of the assailants managed to get hold of a stick the victim was holding and began hitting him with it while the other assailant and Bad Man kicked and hit the man while he was on the ground.

The victim was finally able to escape by jumping into the back of a pickup truck that stopped near him before driving away.

Crown prosecutor Clayton Giles pointed out one of the victim’s eyes was swollen shut and he was bleeding from the head. He added the entire incident was caught on a video surveillance camera from a nearby business.

Although sentenced to four months in jail, Bad Man’s jail term was reduced by 18 days for time he had already spent in custody. An additional and unrelated charge of break and enter, which was also on Thursday’s court docket, was adjourned until Tuesday.
