Police investigating after laser pointed at plane

Lethbridge Police are investigating an incident where the co-pilot of a plane preparing to land at the Lethbridge Airport was temporarily blinded by a laser.
On June 23, 2020 at approximately 3:15 a.m. a King Air 200 flying at an altitude of approximately 5000 feet was hit with a high intensity green laser. The laser caused a temporary loss of vision to the co-pilot, but did not impact the pilot who was looking in the opposite direction. The laser hit the plane a total of three times. No one was injured and the aircraft was able to land safely.
It is an offence under the Aeronautics Act to engage in any behaviour that endangers the safety and security of an aircraft in flight or persons on board an aircraft in flight.
Transport Canada has been notified of the incident.
