The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division has announced the passing of Terry O’Donnell on Saturday, surrounded by his family.
“We are devastated to have lost him so quickly, but also thank God for calling him home so peacefully,” said his wife, Sue, in a release on the school division’s website.
O’Donnell was a longtime educator/administrator in Picture Butte and was actively involved in the life of the community. He became directly engaged with the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division in 2007, when he was elected to represent Ward 3: Picture Butte as a trustee of the board.
O’Donnell absolutely loved the time he spent as a board member, the division noted in the release. Over the next 10 years he brought his humour, quick wit, insights and wisdom to all aspects of his position. He was a well-known presence in his home community at St. Catherine School, serving on numerous committees, and he provided leadership as vice-chair (2010-2013) and board chair (2013-2015). Throughout his term he remained passionate about Catholic education and was always an advocate for students, ensuring they were given the opportunities and education that they deserved.
O’Donnell will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will unquestionably live on in the many students he taught, the organizations he served, and the faces of his loving family.
Due to COVID-19, the number of people able to attend O’Donnell’s funeral is, unfortunately, limited. In the meantime, flags at all schools in the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division will be at half-mast in O’Donnell’s honour.
