LETHBRIDGE HERALD
Lethbridge police have charged two men after a citizen observed her friend’s stolen vehicle and promptly reported it.
After the stolen Suburban was spotted along the 3800 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South, members of the Crime Suppression Team and Patrols attended the area and used a pinning technique to immobilize the vehicle after it was parked in a lot.
The driver and occupants were arrested without incident. The vehicle was initially reported stolen out of Coaldale and had been attached to a trailer. Following further investigation the trailer, containing kayaks and life jackets, was subsequently recovered in Coalhurst and returned along with the Suburban to its rightful owner. In addition, a stolen licence plate, which had been placed on the Suburban, was also recovered and returned.
Derek Edward Schalk, 23, of Lethbridge, is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, three counts of failing to comply with release conditions and driving an uninsured vehicle on the highway. He was remanded to appear in court July 23.
William Edward Fick, 31, of Lethbridge, is charged with failing to comply with release conditions. Fick was remanded to appear in court July 10.
