LETHBRIDGE HERALD
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the United Way of Lethbridge and South Western Alberta has been forced to cancel its Local Love Golf Classic, which was scheduled for Aug. 11 at Paradise Canyon Golf Resort.
Each year the tournament raises about $30,000 for the United Way. This year, in the wake of COVID-19, community organizations will be relying on the United Way more than ever to maintain essential services to address poverty, education, inequality and social isolation.
The loss of the funds raised through this and other events has already begun to hurt the United Way’s capacity to support the community. The United Way is asking participants and sponsors to consider a donation in lieu of the sponsorship or registration fee you might have otherwise paid to play in the tournament. All donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
Donations include: $1,000 in lieu of a Gold sponsorship; $650 in lieu of a Silver sponsorship; $250 in lieu of a single golfer; and $40 in lieu of the usual 50-50 tickets and mulligans.
