A man originally charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving under the Criminal Code was fined Friday in Lethbridge court after pleading guilty to a lesser charge under the Traffic Safety act of driving with undue care and attention.
Court was told Edward Jefferey Witney was speeding along Mayor Magrath Drive South at about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 3 of last year, and was not paying attention when he struck a curb, overcorrected, then struck a tree in the median causing his vehicle to overturn.
Emergency responders could only extract Witney and his passenger by cutting and removing the cab of the truck.
Witney was fined $1,725 and had his operator’s licence suspended for 45 days.
