Honkers Pub & Eatery was the scene of a drive-thru of the wrong kind Sunday morning, as police say thieves used a truck to break into the northside restaurant and steal an ATM.

Lethbridge police are investigating after the owner was alerted to an alarm at the business at about 6 a.m. Police investigated the scene and determined a small truck was driven through the front window before the two occupants exited the vehicle, stole an ATM inside the business and drove away.

Security footage was captured of the incident.

Owner Vicky Vanden Hoek says she’s been overwhelmed by the community’s support. Vanden Hoek said a GoFundMe campaign had been started to help with any expenses and anything beyond what might be needed will be used to support frontline workers.

An update on Honkers Facebook page said they planned to re-open Tuesday for dine in, take out and curbside service, with the post indicating they were taking the incident in stride, stating “sorry, drive in closed.”

Police say the investigation is continuing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8427.
