Health-care workers across the province will be rolling up their sleeves in the days and weeks to come as Alberta Health Services (AHS) began the rollout of 25,350 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to all health-care zones on Wednesday.
Fourteen dedicated COVID-19 centres across the province have been set up to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, which will be distributed to all eligible respiratory therapists, ICU staff and physicians, and some continuing care health-care workers.
A total of 975 doses are set to be administered in Lethbridge, according to a release from the province.
Staff and physicians identified for immunization during this preliminary phase have been selected based on their level of interaction with individuals that are COVID-19 positive, their risk of transmission from COVID-19 positive cases, as well as their role on the frontlines of the COVID-19 response.
AHS is working with Alberta Health, who is responsible for COVID-19 vaccine policy, including purchase and allocation of vaccine, to plan distribution of COVID-19 vaccine in the province, which will happen in phases and is anticipated to take several months to complete.
