A Lethbridge woman is planning on starting the new year with an icy plunge while benefitting a local charity.
Kaelee Steele, who raised money for Alpha House with a 24-hour walk around Lethbridge in October, has initiated the Polar Plunge for Pets with money raised going to the Lethbridge and District Humane Society.
Steele is planning on swimming in Park Lake on Jan. 1 with the hopes of raising $2,500 for the Humane Society via her GoFundMe page.
“2020 has been hard for everyone, and the new covid restrictions during the holiday season it is inevitable you will feel somewhat alone,” said Steele on the GoFundMe page. “My pets have been a saving grace during this time, and I know I am not the only one that feels that way.
“So to start of 2021 on a good foot, I will be taking a polar plunge into Park Lake on Jan. 1 to raise money for the Lethbridge and District Humane Society. Help me give back to those who don’t have a voice, yet still have so much love to give.”
Steele is planning on live streaming the plunge. Anyone who is interested in donating, sharing the word or volunteering at the Humane Society can go to https://gofund.me/45544308.
