Holy Spirit names new deputy superintendent

By Trevor Busch on January 23, 2021.

Michelle MacKinnon has been appointed as the new deputy superintendent for Holy Spirit Catholic School Division.
“We are incredibly blessed to have Mrs. MacKinnon take on this role as Deputy Superintendent,” stated board chair Bob Spitzig. “The breadth of knowledge she brings from her educational experiences in early learning, inclusive education, counselling, health and wellness will certainly benefit the division as she takes on this new role.”
Originally hailing from Nova Scotia, MacKinnon holds a BA in Community Studies from the University of Cape Breton, a BEd from St. Francis Xavier University, and MEd in Administration from Gonzaga University. She has served Holy Spirit for the past 18 years, providing leadership in the many positions she has held, most recently as acting deputy superintendent.
“From a pool of very strong applicants, Michelle was the clear choice for this position,” remarked Superintendent Ken Sampson. “She’s truly a passionate and innovative educator with a proven ability to develop genuine relationships with staff, parents, students, and community members. Moreover, she is always focused on the needs of our students, particularly those who may be marginalized.”
“I am really excited,” expressed MacKinnon. “I’ve been blessed over the years to serve the division in many different leadership roles and I feel that this is another way that I’ve been called to serve. My focus for this role will be to care for the dignity of our employees. It is essential that our staff are well supported so that they can carry out their vocation to nurture and educate our students.”
Michelle is an active participant in her faith and a member of the St. Martha Parish community in Lethbridge. She and her husband, Doyle, are parents to three adult children.
