Police and fire officials are investigating an explosion which led to a fire at a northside home on the 1400 block of 11 Avenue North Wednesday evening.
The Lethbridge Fire Marshal’s office is confirming emergency crews were called to the scene at about 9 p.m. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion at the home, and by the time fire crews from three stations arrived the residence was fully engulfed. Crews quickly attacked the fire and performed a rescue of one resident, evacuating the individual through a basement window.
The person was then transported to Chinook Regional Hospital with undetermined injuries.
Damage from the fire is estimated at about $375,000.
Chief Fire Marshal Heath Wright confirmed a police investigation has been opened over the incident, but the cause is still yet to be determined.
“Police are involved,” he stated, “and we are working together with them to determine a cause and origin.”
