Driving a stolen pickup truck has netted a 29-year-old woman a two-month stint behind bars.
Tila Bailey Scout was sentenced last week in Lethbridge provincial court after pleading guilty to one count of possession of stolen property.
Court was told two people were seen Dec. 31 of last year standing outside the police compound on the northside, then a short time later a truck smashed through the fence and sped away.
Shortly afterward police received a call from a construction worker at the westside firehall, who reported there was an F150 pickup truck stuck in a snowdrift and abandoned.
Police noted damage to the truck and tracked the suspects to a residence on Ryerson Road. They talked to people at the home who told them Scout and another person had been there that morning but were causing a disturbance and were kicked out. They climbed into an F150 pickup truck and drove away.
Crown Prosecutor Bruce Ainscough said police obtained a warrant to arrest the suspects, and during Scout’s sentencing hearing her lawyer acknowledged Scout was driving the truck and knew it had been stolen.
Scout was sentenced to 60 days in jail, consecutive to a lengthy custodial sentence she is currently serving at the Edmonton Institution for Women. She also faces additional criminal charges and is expected to address them when she returns to court later this month.
