Food services, a patio and other upgrades will be part of a renovation project approved by city council for the Southern Alberta Art Gallery.
The $5.78 million project was approved this week as part of the the city’s Capital Improvement Program for 2022-31.
The renovations will included needs-based improvements to the gallery, food services/catering kitchen and patio/programming space.
“This represents an exciting new chapter for both the Southern Alberta Art Gallery and for Lethbridge,” said Board of Directors Co-Chair Melissa Arseniuk in a press release.
“This funding addresses the immediate needs of our City-owned facility, and will allow us to expand our programming offerings, enhance the guest experience, and ultimately become a top-notch destination for residents and visitors alike. We are extremely grateful for city council’s support, and we can’t wait to see this project move forward.”
Renovations will optimize the existing floor plan of the gallery, introduce a loading dock and develop an outdoor patio overlooking Galt Gardens.
It will also include a catering kitchen for facilitating expanded events and a collaborative pop-up bistro.
Outside funding will be incorporated into future stages of what is being called a “rejuvenation project” including an art part and legacy naming opportunities.
