One of two people arrested Monday after police stopped a stolen truck, made his first appearance this week in Lethbridge provincial court.
Michael Dean McKie of Strathmore, who is in custody at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, was represented Wednesday by duty counsel, who told court the accused hopes to retain Calgary lawyer Shaun Leochko. In the meantime, McKie’s matter has been adjourned until Monday.
McKie, 52, is charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000, six counts of failure to comply with release orders conditions, and one count under the Traffic Safety Act of driving without insurance.
Lethbridge police spotted a truck on Monday matching the description of a vehicle stolen earlier in the day from the 300-block of Leaside Avenue South.
Police conducted a traffic stop in the 2600 block of 16 Avenue South, during which two people were arrested.
A second person, the passenger in the truck, is charged with drug possession and failure to comply with a probation order. Nichole Healy, 34, of Coalhurst, was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 27.
