Green Prairie warehouse fire causes $5 million damage, no injuries

Emergency crews responded to a large fire in a warehouse at the Green Prairie facility east of the city Wednesday evening.

The fire started shortly after 7 p.m., with a reported fifteen apparatus from Lethbridge and Coaldale fire stations put into helping to battle the blaze. Fire crews were able to make use of an adjacent irrigation canal as a water supply to help fight the fire.RCMP and Lethbridge Police were also called in to assist at the scene.

The 58,000 square foot warehouse containing forage product send a large black plume of smoke into the clear evening sky,

Crews are expecting to continue firefighting operations throughout the day to extinguish hot spots.

The Green Prairie International forage processor and supply facility has been the scene of a number of major fires dating back over the years.

Early damage estimates are reported at approximately $5 million, with no injuries to firefighters or civilians on the scene. There is still no official word on the cause of the fire.
