Allison Christa Wiebe wasn’t making any friends in the apartment building in which she lived.
She threatened to kill one tenant, and another tenant is moving out because of her antics, for which police were called one afternoon last April.
A tenant called police and told them Wiebe was screaming relentlessy inside her apartment, and when the tenant finally couldn’t take it anymore – Wiebe had caused problems in the past – she went to her door and told Wiebe to be quiet. Not only did Wiebe not comply, she threatened to “shoot the bitch.”
Wiebe, 34, pleaded guilty recently in Lethbridge provincial court to charges of uttering threats to cause death, failure to report to her probation officer, and failure to comply with probation. She was sentenced to one month in jail, for which she was given full credit for time served, and placed on probation for one year.
Wiebe had previously failed on a number of occasions to report to probation, and at the time of the offences she was prohibited from consuming drugs. When police arrived in response to the tenant’s complaint, Wiebe lit up a pipe with marijuana and smoked it in front of them.
The Crown pointed out tenants had complained in the past, and had “gone through hell” since Wiebe moved in.
Lethbridge lawyer Vincent Guinan explained Wiebe has “significant” mental health issues, which are exacerbated by her drug use. She resorts to substance abuse, Guinan added, to help her deal with her challenges.
While on probation Wiebe must behave herself and she is prohibited from having contact with the complainant and from returning to the apartment building – from which she has moved – except with a police officer to pick up her belongings. She must be assessed and take psychological counseling, as well as counseling for substance abuse, and she is prohibited from consuming alcohol and drugs.
