Lethbridge musician Shaela Miller is among the Top 12 in the 2021 edition of the Project Wild musician development program.
Miller also made the Top 12 in 2018.
Cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Project Wild is back giving country and roots musicians a chance to earn a $100,953 top prize. Second and third place finishers receive $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.
A music industry bootcamp, live showcases and a series of challenges are part of the seventh and final year of the project, which is a $4.9 million program funded by the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group.
Each artist gets a $5,000 development award and an invitation to the bootcamps where they will enhance their skills in songwriting, performance, music business and accounting, media and tour strategies and social media.
Following a series of live showcases and public voting, the Top Three will be chosen.
Miller is not the only Lethbridge artist to make the Project Wild Top 12 – Trevor Panczak competed in the 2016 season.
In February, all artists who completed the bootcamp – which includes four virtual sessions in October and November – will participate in showcases that will determine the Top 3. Public voting will be done online between Feb. 13 and Feb. 20. Artists will be given points based on their percentage of the overall votes.
Artists will submit a final report on their challenges and accomplishments to the Project Wild committee to review and critique by Feb. 24.
The Top 3 will be announced on March 7 with the awards night finale to be staged on March 26 in Calgary.
