The Covenant Foundation Harvest Moon Ball will once again be going virtual this year to support the needs of residents at St. Therese Villa and St. Michael’s Health Centre.
“All the way up until 2019 the Harvest Moon Ball was an incredible gala that had been going on for 18 years,” explains Covenant Foundation manager of Events and Stewardship, Lyndsay Cowan. “With COVID, we decided in 2020 to keep it alive, but, of course, shift to something virtual to keep everyone safe. And with that we launched the Harvest Moon Ball Silent Auction, and we are doing that again this year.”
The silent auction goes live on Tuesday and ends on Oct. 26, and Cowan is hoping the event will be as successful as the 2020 version which raised $88,000 thanks not only to the bidders, but also due to significant community donors like local philanthropist Cor Van Raay, who passed away earlier this year.
Cowan says this year’s Harvest Moon Ball Silent Auction will be held in honour of Van Raay in gratitude for his years of support and generosity for the Covenant Foundation.
“(Van Raay) is a longtime supporter of the Foundation,” Cowan confirms, “and in conversation with his family wanted to really honour him and respect the legacy he has left, and his impact on health care.”
The money raised from the Harvest Moon event pays for all those extra little things that make life better for its residents, says Cowan.
“It’s all about that compassionate care,” she confirms.
Cowan is thankful to the community and residents of the Lethbridge region for their support.
“We have tremendous volunteers who help put this together, and we look to have something for everyone,” she says. “So really anyone who want to go to bid and support health care by participating in the auction, they will find something that is a good fit for them.”
