After receiving a call from a concerned citizen regarding the possible closure of the St. Michael’s palliative care centre, the Herald reached out to Covenant Health.
Shelly Decker, spokesperson for Covenant Health, explained that patients receiving palliative care at St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge have been re-located within the building, along with staff from the palliative care unit to support their care.
“Patient and resident safety, care and comfort is our priority,” said Decker.
She said patient moves were in response to some staffing shortages, including staff vacancies, medical leave and vacation time, and all family contacts of patients moved were contacted to inform them of the changes.
“We understand loved ones may have questions. Families are encouraged to reach out to the site administrator for information,” said Decker.
She said they continue taking steps to address staffing shortages, including ongoing recruitment.
