Can’t remember if garbage or recycling gets picked up this week? There’s now an app for that.
Lethbridge Loop, a free app available for Apple and Android products, is now available to give residents notice of planned and scheduled City services.
The app replaces the text messaging service the City has used to give residents reminders about their garbage and recycling schedules which ends April 1.
But the app is for much more than a reminder about garbage pickup – it can inform residents of such things as planned power outages, as well.
The app has been available for three weeks but it was formally launched Monday at City Hall.
Residents can schedule and set reminders by plugging their address into the app at the top.
The app will allow the City to communicate more directly with residents.
As an incentive, a prize pack giveaway is being offered with the launch’s app.
The app will be a cost-saving to the City of about $10,000 annually because text subscription rates are going up with the company the City uses.
“As somebody who has completely and quite often forgotten that it’s blue cart bin or black cart bin, I’m thrilled to say that we have an app for that today,” said Mayor Blaine Hyggen Monday.
“Lethbridge Loop is a free smartphone app which reminds residents about a number of scheduled City services, things like waste and recycling, planned power outages, street sweeping and planned main water work,” the mayor said.
Hyggen said he’s happy to see the City take steps to directly communicate with residents about important matters in their daily lives.
“I’m looking forward to being the bin-fluencer on my street and I encourage others to download the app and get in the loop,” the mayor added.
Hyggen said he was hooked up to the texting service, which he enjoyed but the app is a more convenient option.
