With COVID-19 restrictions completely lifted, Fort Whoop-Up celebrated Heritage Day in its full glory on Monday.
With admission by donation, fort staff welcomed visitors to the park on a sweltering Monday to enjoy the holiday.
While the fort was open in 2020 on the holiday, social distancing regulations meant all activities had to be staged outdoors, said fort site co-ordinator Abbi Thom Monday as she greeted guests at one of two petting zoos on the fort grounds.
Heritage Day celebrations had plenty for visitors to see and learn. People could explore the community garden and learn about traditional food preservation methods, go for wagon rides and learn about the history of the teepee from Blair Many Fingers who engaged guests with his knowledge. All parts of the fort were open for visitors to wander about with their families. Open from 1 until 4 p.m., the fort attracted visitors even from other provinces as evidenced by the licence plates in the parking lot.
