To mark the return of Whoop-Up Days at full strength, Mayor Blaine Hyggen will be hosting the inaugural Mayor’s Community Barbecue to kick things off with some free food.
“We’ve had a rather quiet last few years when it comes to Whoop-Up Days, haven’t had a parade for two years and so we are having the parade and decided to do something for the community, so we are having the Mayor’s Community Barbecue right after the parade,” said Hyggen.
The Mayor’s Community Barbecue is set for August 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. outside Lethbridge City Hall on 4 Avenue.
“It’s free for the first 750 people that come. It’s going to be pop, chips, hamburger or hotdogs,” said Hyggen.
There will also be a face painting station for kids of all ages.
Musician Trevor Panczak will be performing a full concert on the steps of City Hall during the event.
There will also be a special appearance and autographs by champion chuckwagon driver Kris Molle, who won the Calgary Stampede’s Dash for Cash last month.
“We’ll also have a table to talk about our budget in the fall, so people can come in and give suggestions, ideas and thoughts to our budget that’s up and coming,” said Hyggen.
He added that they will also have a recruitment table for Lethbridge City Council’s boards, commissions and committees at the event.
“An opportunity for people to ask questions of our city staff on how to be involved with our community and those boards,” said Hyggen.
