The lawyer for a 45-year-old man accused of killing another man earlier this year made an appearance in Lethbridge provincial court Friday, but only long enough to adjourn the matter for several days.

Tracy Hembroff told court she had been unable to meet with her client, Sheldon Nicholas LePage, during the week, and sought an adjournment to next Friday to allow her time to discuss the case with the accused. During a court hearing earlier in the month, Hembroff said she and the Crown are still discussing the case and any election the accused may ultimately make on the record.

LePage is charged with manslaughter relating to an incident at about 8:30 p.m. on May 5 of this year when the victim was approached by a man near the intersection of 8 Street and 2 Avenue North.

During an argument, the man struck 44-year-old Amber Bahadur Khadka, knocking him down and causing him to strike his head on the ground. The assailant left the area, but was found by police and arrested later in the day.

Police said the two men knew each other and the altercation was targeted at the victim. An autopsy May 9 confirmed the cause of death was homicide.
