The Lethbridge Electronic Music Festival is set to celebrate 10 years on Saturday and are bringing in bigger name artists for the events.
“We try to provide an environment to maybe get people out to electronic music festivals that don’t normally get a chance to come out to them,” said David Fritz, current president of the LEMF organizing committee.
“We tend to be more family focused and being free and all ages, that kind of opens us up to a lot of people that normally don’t get out to these kinds of things. It’s nice to kind of have that, so we can try and break down the barriers – you know, some of the thoughts that people might have about electronic music festivals.”
There will be two stages and 24 acts at Galt Gardens and will include major international headliners such as Los Angeles’s DJ Dan, Chicago’s Collette, Joe Nice from Baltimore and Calgary’s Joanna Magik.
The after party will be at Club Lime from 11 p.m. – 2:30 a.m. and international headliner Megan Hamilton will play alongside locals Marty Funkhauser, Phunky Le Frew and Opie.
“This is definitely our most ambitious budget for sure,” said Fritz.
“We brought in some pretty major headliners, improved the production a bit, we’ve got new sound on both stages, we have lights on both stages, we’ve got a little area called the Keyboard Lounge – we’ve expanded that – that’s kind of like a little chill zone area. Just bigger and better across the board.”
The line-up will include 12 local and eight out of town acts that will feature veterans of the Western Canadian festival scene.
“LEMF gives DJs an opportunity to play for family, friends, and the community rather than just in a nightclub or at 18-plus festival,” as read in the release.
LEMF will also feature artisan vendors, food trucks, beer gardens, a Kids Zone with air jump, dancers and live graffiti art.
LEMF is by donation and goes from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
