Accused in hit-and-run back in court Sept. 16

A 39-year-old Lethbridge man facing several charges in relation to a hit-and-run earlier this year, had his matters adjourned in Lethbridge provincial court Tuesday.

The matter of Scott Eugene Conine was adjourned to Sept. 16 by Lethbridge lawyer Claudia Connolly who appeared as agent for Vincent Guinan who represents Conine, so Guinan could look into the matters further.

Connolly appeared in court Tuesday to discuss the charges of failure to remain at the scene of an accident, driving while unauthorized, driving without insurance, operating an unregulated trailer, and displaying unauthorized licence plates.

Conine is also charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, three counts of failing to comply with a probation order, breach of a peace bond and three counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited.
Police reported that at about 4:30 p.m. on May 31, officers responded to a report of a hit and run in the 2300 block of 5 A Avenue North. A vehicle travelling along 5 A Avenue struck a parked vehicle, and the male driver and a female passenger fled on foot.
Two witnesses attempted to intervene but the fleeing man threatened them with a knife. The suspect, who is known to police, was subsequently seen entering a nearby home and refused to exit.
The police tactical team was deployed given the threat of a weapon. They entered the home, arrested the suspect and seized a knife and ammunition.
