The matter for a 45-year-old man facing a manslaughter charge was adjourned waiting for a pre-trial conference to be scheduled.
During a brief hearing Friday in Lethbridge provincial court, Lethbridge lawyer Tracy Hembroff appeared on behalf of Sheldon Nicholas LePage, to ask the court for the matter to be adjourned to Sept. 16 to be able to schedule a pre-trial conference for her client.
Hembroff told the court that between her and both Crown prosecutors assigned to this matter, they agreed that it would take more than one day for it to be resolved and therefore a pre-trial conference was required.
During a previous court appearance, Hembroff elected on behalf of the accused for trial by a Court of King’s Bench judge with a preliminary hearing.
The manslaughter charge relates to an incident at about 8:30 p.m. on May 5 of this year when the victim, Amber Bahadur Khadka, was approached by a man near the intersection of 8 Street and 2 Avenue North.
During an argument, the man struck 44-year-old Khadka, knocking him down and causing him to strike his head on the ground. The assailant left the area but was found by police and arrested later in the day.
Police said the two men knew each other and the victim had been targeted by his assailant.
