Sakamoto Agency hauls in hardware at CCMAs

After winning the talent buyer/promoter of the year award 17 straight times, Ron Sakamoto was asked years ago by the Canadian Country Music Association if it could rename that prize in his honour.

Sakamoto graciously agreed and took himself out of the running for it. If he hadn’t been on tour with country artist Johnny Reid, Sakamoto would have been in Calgary on Saturday night watching that award be handed out to his own employee.

Paul Biro of Sakamoto Agency was bestowed the honour at the industry awards portion of the weekend love affair with country music.

For the third straight year, Sakamoto Agency was also named booking agency of the year.

Sakamoto has more than 35 artists on his company’s roster. The company owner has been with Reid on much of that tour.

Sakamoto’s company has offices in Lethbridge as well as Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Saskatoon and Ottawa and will be opening one in Paris, France.
