Opening a window on City salaries

City council serving as its Economic Standing Policy Committee will be creating the 2023-26 budget this fall with meetings scheduled this month and for five days in November.

Eighteen city organizations and several boards and commissions have come before the SPC seeking funding from council.

The cost of operating government is a topic of interest to many city residents so The Herald has compiled a snapshot of some of the salary structures for the City of Lethbridge.

The information being provided comes from the City’s 2022 Compensation Disclosure List which is available for public viewing at lethbridge.ca

Rates are effective as of Jan. 1. Incumbent salary falls between the minimum and maximum base salary noted for each position.

* Mayor – $130,219

* Councillor – $53,349.

(Mayor and council opted for a 10 per cent salary rollback from 2019 levels in 2021.)

* City manager – $259,994

* City solicitor – minimum base $150,092, maximum base $215,773.

* Chief of police – minimum base $200,000, maximum base $225,000.

* Chief of Fire and EMS – minimum base $150,092, maximum base $187,629.

* City treasurer – minimum base $150,092, maximum base $187,629.

* City clerk – minimum base $120,081, maximum base $172,605.

* Chief of Staff – minimum base $120,081, maximum base $150,092.

* Communications and Engagement Manager – minimum base $102,921, maximum base $128,642.

* Communications Strategist, minimum base $77,318, maximum base $96,681.

* Community Arts and Culture Manager – minimum base $88,472, maximum $110,565.

*Community Services Financial and Administration Manage – minimum base $102,921, maximum base $147,938.
