A Calgary man charged with multiple break-ins earlier this year, hopes he’ll be released from custody when he appears in Lethbridge provincial court next week.
Tyler Lewis, 35, who is in custody at the Calgary Remand Centre, is scheduled to have a bail hearing on Wednesday.
His lawyer, David Nguyen of Calgary, appeared in court Thursday and said he will ask his client to be released under the supervision of a surety. A surety ensures an accused person complies with release conditions and may, if necessary, post bail money.
Lewis, 35, is one of several people who face charges stemming from multiple break-ins in Vulcan County earlier this year.
Officers with the Vulcan RCMP detachment and the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit searched a Calgary residence on March 26 and recovered more than $40,000 worth of stolen property, including several firearms.
Lewis is charged with multiple counts of shopbreaking with intent to commit an indictable offence, and single counts of housebreaking with intent, and break and enter and steal a firearm. He returns to court on those charges Nov. 29.
Co-accused Beth Scott, 43, of Vulcan is also charged with housebreaking and shopbreaking with intent, as well as break and enter and steal firearm, and mischief causing damage to property under $5,000. Her matter was in court Thursday, as well, but simply adjourned to Nov. 29.
A third accused, Nathaniel Loft of Calgary, was not scheduled to be in court Thursday. His lawyer, Shaun Leochko of Calgary, noted Loft is scheduled for trial early next year. He was charged with one count of housebreaking with intent, three counts of shop breaking with intent, one count of break and enter, one count of theft of a firearm, and one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
