A 33-year-old woman who broke into a home on the weekend and assaulted another woman who was asleep in bed, has been released from custody.

Kelsey Megan Across the Mountain, who appeared in Lethbridge provincial court Tuesday by CCTV from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, was released on $1,000 no-cash bail and ordered to return to court next month. Court was told the accused was granted bail by a justice of the peace following her arrest Saturday, but she was unable to pay the $50 cash bail and remained in remand custody.

Police responded to a call about 3:45 a.m. Saturday, relating to a break-in to a home in the 600 block of 13 Street South, in which a 31-year-old woman was awakened when her bedroom lights were turned on.

Police reported that a woman had entered the house through a window, and when the homeowner screamed, the other woman left the bedroom. However, she returned to the bedroom shortly afterward with a pot from the kitchen and assaulted the homeowner. Both women were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police found the assailant hiding in another room and wearing the homeowner’s shoes.

Across the Mountain is charged with housebreaking with intent, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and robbery. Her next court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 15.
