An arrest warrant has been issued for one of two people charged in relation to a break-in at a Fort Macleod business last month.
At about 9:21 p.m. Nov. 21 Fort Macleod RCMP received a complaint of a break-in to a local business. Fort Macleod RCMP, along with Coaldale traffic services and the south district police dog services, caught up to a fleeing vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle took off, however, but was found a short time later, and although several occupants fled on foot, two suspects were caught with the help of police dog Monty.
Police determined the 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 used in the offence had been stolen from Medicine Hat. Further investigation revealed the suspects were involved in several other property crimes around southern Alberta and were in possession of a large amount of stolen property. Police also believe additional individuals were involved.
Two accused, David Archibald Hearn of Fort Macleod and Kristy Leanne Miller of Redcliff, are charged with single counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, break and enter/commit theft, and flight from police, as well as two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.
The pair made their first appearance in Lethbridge provincial court on Nov. 25 and had their matters adjourned to Dec. 2. Hearn remained in remand custody but Miller was released on bail with several conditions, including she return to court Friday. She failed to show up, however, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Court was told Hearn remains in custody and is working on a bail plan with his lawyer. In the meantime he is also considering options for treatment and counselling. Hearn’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 3.
