The West Lethbridge constituency of the UCP has a new candidate to run in the May 29 provincial election.

Cheryl Seaborn, a former president of the of the Lethbridge West UCP Constituency Association, was named the party candidate Thursday morning by premier Danielle Smith.

The riding lost its first candidate last Thursday when Torry Tanner resigned after videos surfaced of her making inflammatory comments about Alberta students being exposed to pornography and being helped to change their gender identity by teachers.

The premier last week said she’d be working with the Lethbridge West constituency and the party to appoint a replacement.

On Thursday, the premier also welcomed as candidates Ron Wiehe in Grande Prairie – Wapiti and Joseph Angeles in Edmonton-South.

“I am thrilled to have Cheryl Seaborn, Ron Wiebe, and Joseph Angeles join our team of incredible candidates. After several conversations with these individuals and their local boards, I am confident they will do a tremendous job representing our party in their local constituencies of Lethbridge – West, Grande Prairie – Wapiti, and Edmonton – South, respectively,” Smith said in a press release.

Seaborn and her husband John have lived in Lethbridge for 25 years and have five children and six grandchildren. For 24 years, they’ve owned a successful business in the area, says the statement provided to media.

Seaborn “is a registered nurse and a University of Lethbridge alumni, graduating with the Gold Medal of Honour in the Health Sciences program. She has several years of experience managing rural hospitals in Southern Alberta and was recently awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for her positive relationship building with the Kainai Nation,” says the statement.

Ms Seaborn. Will you now publicly disavow those statements made earlier , leading to Ms Tanner’s dismissal ?

JustObserving

Why should she? Seaborn did not make the comments. Smith has clearly said they do not reflect UCP policy. Lets get creative here and instead of focusing on “illegal thoughts” for which the NDP believe you shoud be imprisioned , lets focus on proposed policies…you know…the stuff that actually matters.

Agree JO. she doesn’t need to apologize for Tanner. Florence is a paint anyone who doesn’t with him with the same brush. I am positive that I have said and done a few things he needs to apologize for on my behalf. Asinine comment.

“Florence is a paint anyone who doesn’t with him with the same brush.”
You sure know how to articulate yourself…NOT!
Are you having a seizure?

john makes a good point – if the party and the candidate chosen to represent them truly do not support the ridiculous views expressed by tanner, would it not then be best to disassociate themselves from the lunacy?
btw – justobs: it does actually matter that a leader/potential leader should spew lies, and stupid ones at that. does one actually feel they could support such foolishness?
btw – buck: jpn did not suggest anything about an apology; far better, he asked whether the new candidate will “disavow” tanner’s lunacy…as in saying tanner’s lies are wrong/without basis.
