A two-out double by Kalem Haney in the bottom of fifth inning drove in the only run of the ball game for the Lethbridge Bulls in a 1-0 win over the Okotoks Dawgs on Thursday night at Spitz Stadium.
Haney blooped the ball down the line just fair to score Carlin Dick.
“Yeah obviously right off the bat, I thought it was going foul,” said Haney.
“But then it snuck probably la foot within the line and it was nice. It was the only RBI we had and we win 1-0. So it’s good to get a Bulls win.”
Haney said it was very well pitched, when asked about the game.
“Both teams pitched very well today,” said Haney.
“I think there was… maybe seven hits in total by both teams collectively. It was a good baseball game all around.”
Bulls head coach Chance Wheatley said, “You know Haney’s been great for us at the top of the order this year.”
“He’s put together some really good at bats (and) found lots of barrels. And yeah hopefully he can keep it rolling.”
Wheatley said it was a good pitchers duo.
“You know Andrew (Kithil) pitched great, Shaye (McTavish) came in (and) closed the door, Brad (Goodwin) and Cole (Bormann), they all did an excellent job,” said Wheatley.
“You know, glad we could find a way to scrape one (run) across.”
Wheatley thought the Bulls pitchers did a great job of continually attacking the Dawgs hitters.
“Yeah, they (Dawgs) just put up good at bats all game,” said Wheatley.
“There’s no easy outs.”
Kithil went five innings, striking out three and giving up no hits.
McTavish gave up two hits in two innings of work, while Goodwin gave up a hit in an inning of work.
Bormann struck out one in his one inning of work.
The Bulls now will embark on a five game road trip that will begin tonight in Brooks before the rematch in Okotoks on Saturday and Sunday and ending on Tuesday and Wednesday next week in Swift Current against the 57’s.
“Yeah just you know with our pitchers just continue to battle and throw strikes and we’ll be alright here,” said Wheatley.
