Canada Day party in the parks start early today

It’s time to party in the park! Two of them to be exact.

Canada Day festivities in Lethbridge will run at both Galt Gardens and Henderson Lake with a range of activity and entertainment.

Celebrations kick off at Galt Gardens at 9 a.m. with O Canada followed by numerous acts throughout the morning until mid-afternoon. Organizers are also promising some unique performances with singing, dancing and comedy.

The Interfaith Food Bank will host a charity breakfast from 9 a.m. until noon at Galt Gardens with a suggested donation of $2. Also at the park will be the LeBaron’s car show which kicks off at 9 a.m. Registration is $10 per entry.

An outdoor market will be run at the park and there will be concessions, food trucks and other activities running from noon until 4 p.m.

At Henderson Lake, residents and visitors can expect a veritable plethora of activities and entertainment for people of all ages culminating in the annual fireworks show late in the evening after a performance by John Wort Hannam.

The day kicks off with a special Canada Day run around the park at 9 a.m.

Celebrations in the northeast part of park start at noon and include a food hub, youth market, kids zone and live performances. The kids zone will feature bouncy castles, family-friendly theatre shows and face painting among activities. The kids zone runs until 8 p.m.

To satisfy appetites, a wide range of local food offerings will be available on site.

Entertainment on the main stage will include a wide range of familiar and new performers.

Entertainment runs from 11 a.m. until 10:45 p.m. with guest speakers taking the stage at 4 p.m.

Canada Day will also be celebrated at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden with taiko performances, Minyo dancing, Tad and Tomo Storytime and Cleo Mower’s Happy Hour.

The Lethbridge Bulls will be in action with a double header against the Swift Current 57s. The first game starts at 2:05 p.m. and the nightcap at 7:35.

Mainstage performers include the Lethbridge Community Band, who get things started at 11 a.m.
