The Lethbridge International Airshow is quickly approaching, and organizers are in need of volunteers to help it run smoothly.
President of the Lethbridge International AirshowDallas Harty said this week there are multiple volunteer positions that need to be filled.
“In order to operate an air show this size we rely heavily on volunteers and everybody’s lives get busy and what not, but we are desperately in need of volunteers. We’ve got a great group of volunteers together already, but with the number of people we need to do security, and 50/50 sales, and chalet services we definitely need more volunteers,” said Harty.
He said one of the perks of being a volunteer is being able to get in for free and depending on what activity they are volunteering for, they would be able to watch the show somewhat.
“Obviously you’re expected to do your volunteer duties but you kind of get to watch the airshow for free, and it’s a great experience,” said Harty.
He said he was involved with the airshow for many years as volunteer and believes it to be a rewarding experience.
“When you’re able to see the magnitude and the size of this event, it’s pretty rewarding to be able to say that you were a part of that,” said Harty.
He said even though they have over 100 volunteers already lined up, they still need about 40 to 50 more volunteers to make sure everything runs smoothly.
“To be able to run the show properly we need between 125 and 150 volunteers, I believe we’re just around that 100 to 110 mark at the moment,” said Harty.
He said that even though the airshow still has just over a week to go before it takes off, there is an orientation and a few things everyone has to be made aware of beforehand. So, he is encouraging those who wish to volunteer to reach out as soon as possible.
Some of the areas where they need volunteers for include security, sales, people to look after the gates and parking and general volunteer duties to help out with anything that might come up.
Harty said those wishing to volunteer need to fill out a form where they will be asked to provide their availability to be scheduled accordingly.
“We’ll take any help, whether it’s one day, both days, whatever you can volunteer for, we’d love to have your help,” said Harty.
This year the Lethbridge International Airshow will take place Jul. 29 and 30 with over a dozen of aerial performances and static displays, pancake breakfast, a family area with bouncy castles, beer gardens, a Monster Truck, and a market with over 30 vendors.
