City expanding Fee Assistance Program in Aug.

The City of Lethbridge fee assistance program is expanding Aug. 1 to incorporate the existing Refugee Bus Pass program and options for Access-A Ride.

Residents with refugee status can now apply to the FAP to get two-thirds of their transit fares covered.

The City says along with other fee assistance participants, refugees will pay for the first month of bus passes and get the next two months at no cost to them.

Participants need prior approval for eligibility which can be done online at https://www.lethbridge.ca/community-services-supports/community-social-development-csd/fee-assistance-program/ or they can email the fee assistance team at feeassistance@lethbridge.ca

Access-a-Ride trips can be added to services covered in the fee assistance program. The City has three different options available for low, middle and high AAR users. People applying for a buss pass or Access-a-Ride through the fee assistance program must fill out an online application or call 311. They can’t reload cards using the LT fare app. The application form is available at https://www.lethbridge.ca/community-services-supports/community-social-development-csd/fee-assistance-program/

The fee assistance program was started in 2015 and from Jan. 1 until Oct. 31 last year, it awarded 706 applications. This helped out 1,615 city residents aged from infants to people that were 83 years old. Sixty city organizations were accessed by people using the program for various activities including swimming lessons and passes, sports activities, music lessons and senior memberships.
