With the Lethbridge International Airshow starting today, the City of Lethbridge is sharing some tips to keep viewers, participants and wildlife safe during the event.

The City  said Friday it is asking residents to keep in mind a few things related to the airshow.

For residents scheduled to fly out of the Lethbridge Airport, they should know that regularly scheduled flights will not be impacted by the Lethbridge International Airshow. However, it’s recommended that travellers allow extra time to arrive and prepare for departing flights.

General parking at the airport will begin at 8 a.m.

The City also says residents should expect that traffic will increase throughout the weekend, specially in the south end and at the airport. Motorists are reminded to drive carefully and be patient during this time.

The Lethbridge International Airshow Association has coordinated free parking for those attending the airshow, with shuttle service being provided from Lethbridge College at the east end of Lot E on 30 Street South. The shuttle will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday.

The Lethbridge International Airshow starts at noon today and Sunday, but gates open for pancake breakfast at 9 a.m.

Residents need to be aware that aerial vehicles and loud noises will be heard overhead throughout the city- not just at the event site.

For those attending the airshow, the City reminds them that smoking is not permitted anywhere on the airfield. Pets are not permitted anywhere on the airfield, with the exception of service animals.

Airshow attendees are asked to remain within designated areas at all times, be respectful of static displays around the area and follow airport and airshow staff instructions as necessary.

They are also asked to ensure all food items are disposed of in an appropriate manner to avoid attracting wildlife to the airport. This includes items like sunflower seeds that are commonly discarded on the ground.
