With a new academic year around the corner, both local post secondary institutions are gearing up to welcome their students back to campus with an array of activities.

For the Lethbridge College the new academic year begins today  with its annual New Student Orientation to help students get familiar with the campus before the first day of classes.

For those new to the college, today begins bright and early with check-in taking place in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium from 8 to 9 a.m. with a welcome from Lethbridge College President and CEO Brad Donaldson and a keynote speech from Stephanie Savage, Lethbridge College Alumni and Engagement manager.

Program orientations will run from 10 a.m. to noon, and a complimentary barbecue lunch with the Lethbridge College Students’ Association will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in The Cave.

Campus tours will also be offered throughout the day to ensure new students are familiar with their buildings and classrooms, and additional welcome events for international students and for Indigenous students will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The first day of classes for most students at Lethbridge College is Wednesday.

The University of Lethbridge is ready to welcome their students with many activities taking place over the next few days, with residence move-in starting on Sunday, where 960 students will take up housing on the university campus, including a record 100 international students.

Today, New Student Orientation takes over with a full day of activities scheduled to help new students get their academic journey started on the right foot, where university staff and returning students will play a key role in helping new students find their way.

Today’s activities will begin with a Pronghorn Athletics Pep Rally from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the 1st Choice Savings Centre gym and a welcome address with President and Vice-Chancellor Digvir Jayas, from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., campus tours will run from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with tours leaving every 20 minutes, and Indigenous Student Welcome will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Iikaisskini Gathering Space, among many other activities.
