The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will be building a new temple in Lethbridge on more than nine acres of land on the city’s westside.
The church on Tuesday said in a news release that the temple will be constructed at the corner of Whoop-Up Drive West and Mauretania Road West.
Plans call for a multi-story building about 45,000 square feet in size and an accompanying distribution centre.
The temple was announced in April by church president Russell M. Nelson. It will be the fourth in Alberta and 10th in Canada. The first Canadian temple was built in Cardston and dedicated 100 years ago in August.
Other Canadian temples are located in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Regina, Winnipeg, Montreal and Halifax.
The church has about 200,000 members in 490 congregations across the country.

Oh joy! Just what we need in an already church infested city! Another LDS recruitment brainwashing facility!
agreed, johnny! i’ll go a step further and say that the bulldozing over of our natural spaces, what is left of them, is an insult to any good creator.
Guess the Cardston temple is full? It’s almost piggish to take 45,000 square feet of land for this purpose. Will it be 45,000 square feet high as well?
Really excited for this, and grateful to live in a country that allows me to practice my religion. I believe this temple will be a great addition to the community!
