A Lethbridge woman has learned the hard way that spitting at a police officer is not only a criminal offence, it also warrants a jail sentence.

On April 18 police were called to a McDonald’s restaurant after a group of unruly people were asked by employees to leave, but they refused.

While police were removing the individuals from the business, Ashlyn Crazyboy turned around, and from a distance of about four feet away spit at one of the officers.

“As far as we can tell from reading through the file, that did not land on the police officer,” Crown Prosecutor Lisa Weich said Friday in Lethbridge court of justice, where Crazyboy pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a peace officer.

Crazyboy, who has a criminal record from 2023, although not for violence, was sentenced to 15 days in jail. She was, however, given full credit for time she spent in remand custody following her arrest, which completes her sentence.

An additional charge of failing to comply with release conditions was withdrawn.
