Two Standing Policy Committee meetings of Lethbridge city council will be staged this week in council chambers.

The Audit SPC meets today at 1:30 p.m. while Safety and Social meets Thursday at the same time.

The Audit SPC consists of councillors Rajko Dodic, Belinda Crowson and Nick Paladino along with deputy mayor Jeff Carlson.

Safety and Social’s members are councillors Jenn Schmidt-Rempel, John Middleton-Hope and Ryan Parker along with acting mayor Mark Campbell.

At today’s meeting, Chief Financial Officer and treasurer of the City Darrell Mathews will make two submissions.

The first is on council policy priorities updates for the third quarter of 2024 and the second is a Financial Services administrative polices update.

On Thursday, YWCA of Lethbridge CEO Jennifer Petracek-Kolb will be making a presentation on that organization’s annual report and update.

There will also be four submissions, two of them by Hunter Heggie, chair of the Downtown Lawlessness Reduction Task Force. One will be regarding a recommendation for the community clean and safe strategy steering committee.

The second submission by Heggie will be on a graffiti abatement recommendation.

Community Social Development general manager Andrew Malcolm will provide an update on the Building Safer Communities Fund project.

According to his submission, the BSCF supports through Public Safety Canada municipalities in efforts to resource projects that prevent gang and gun violence.

The City of Lethbridge received funding halfway through the second year of the four-year federal program and has been working with city police to develop programming that meets what the submission calls “the unique preventative needs in our community.”

Opportunity Lethbridge general manager Abby Slovak will make a presentation on a childcare needs assessment.
