Local tattoo artist trying to erase hate

By Alexandra Noad - Lethbridge Herald Local Journalism Initiative Reporter on July 27, 2024.

Herald photo by Alexandra Noad Morgan Meuller, owner of Erasing Ink, will be giving free tattoo removal to people in the Lethbridge area who have racist or discriminatory tattoos for 10 people starting in October.

Many of our mothers have warned us tattoos are permanent and while some people have tattoos they don’t like, others have tattoos which actually reflect poorly on them as a person.

One local tattoo removal buisness in Lethbridge is trying to help those people out who had gang or racist tattoos in their younger years out by offering free removal, which would normally cost $150 per session.

Morgan Meuller is the owner of Erasing Ink will be offering a new program called Erasing Hate beginning of October this year. Meuller says she was inspired by a close family friend who got a brass knuckle tattoo which included vulgar language from a gang initiation he chose not to pursue in the end.

Meuller says while this friend is the kindest soul, people will write him off because of his tattoo.

“He’s he’s a puppy dog in person and the kindest soul and people just don’t treat him like that as such,” said Meuller.

Meuller says tattoo removal often feels like a slap from an elastic band and if done right there should be no scaring from the removal.

There are a total of 10 spots available and Meuller is looking for people with derogatory and discriminatory which other people will find offensive.

The sessions will start October 1 and the tattoo removal can take 3-5 sessions over the next year.

Meuller hopes to make a difference in the local community with her work. Meuller can be reached on her social media at erasing_ink or on email at erasingginktatooremoval@gmail.com.

“I’m hoping that this reaches the right group of people. I know in Lethbridge we have a little bit of a rougher, tougher community atmosphere or stereotype already that I might be able to help out people who are local.”
